Artisans of Santa Sofia
The Pursuit of Beauty, Passion & A Lost Art Form
Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 11:00 am CT
Beauty, passion and dedication are virtues we look for, admire and love to share. In that spirit, we invite you to meet Antonio Bandini and Giulia Marina, two young, devoted artisans from the small mountain town of Santa Sofia, situated on the border of Tuscany and Romagna.
During our time together, Antonio and Giulia will introduce us to Peromatto, their artistic textile print workshop. Born of their love for an ancient tradition and each other, Peromatto represents their dream of promoting and preserving the legacy of traditional Romagnolo rust printing.
In their workshop, they create and display home textiles and fabrics, using a time-honored technique unique to this region of Italy, and rooted 500 years in the past. This traditional process, carried out entirely by hand, involves designing and making wooden blocks, researching and mixing colors, and selecting the best quality textiles.
In the words of Antonio and Giulia: “Peromatto was born from our encounter, our love for this part of the world, and our fascination for its artisanal traditions. Together we use creativity and artistry to create ethical and sustainable products, bringing back age-old gestures and methods to keep them alive and contemporary.”
To sweeten our day even further, we have invited two “pasticeri” from Santa Dolce Vita. Like Antonio and Giulia, these pastry chefs bring great passion to both the techniques and primary ingredients used in creating their edible masterpieces. The result will be a very special dessert lesson. Viva la dolce vita!
